New Delhi: In a well-coordinated military operation, Indian forces targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and deep within Pakistan during the early hours of May 7 (Wednesday), resulting in the deaths of over a hundred terrorists.
Among those neutralized were several individuals on India's most wanted list, who were also being monitored by international authorities for their involvement in terrorism across various countries.
Defence officials have confirmed that at least five notorious terrorists were eliminated during these strikes, which took them by surprise.
Here are the details of some of the key terrorists killed in the operation:
— Mudassar Khadian Khas, known as Mudassar, was a prominent commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and was among the first to be taken out. He was responsible for the Markaz Taiba in Muridke, Pakistan. The Indian Army targeted this location first during their 25-minute operation.
Mudassar's death drew significant international attention and criticism towards the Pakistani government, especially after he received a guard of honour at his funeral from the Pakistan Army, with wreaths laid on behalf of the Army Chief. His funeral was led by Hafiz Abdul Rauf of JuD, a designated global terrorist, which sparked global outrage.
— Hafiz Muhammed Jameel, a senior commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), was another major loss for the terror network. He was the elder brother-in-law of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar and was among ten family members killed in the strikes. Jameel was responsible for the Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur and was heavily involved in radicalizing youth and fundraising for JeM.
— Mohammad Yusuf Azhar, also known as Ghosi Sahab, was another JeM commander who met his end in the operation. He was related to Maulana Masood Azhar and was responsible for weapons training within JeM, having participated in several terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. He was wanted in connection with the IC-814 hijacking.
— Khalid, referred to as Abu Akasha, was a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative involved in numerous attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and was engaged in arms smuggling from Afghanistan. His funeral in Faisalabad was attended by high-ranking Pakistani Army officials and the Deputy Commissioner of Faisalabad.
— Mohammad Hassan Khan, a JeM operative, was the son of Mufti Asghar Khan Kashmiri, the operational commander of the group in PoK. He played a crucial role in orchestrating terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
